With modern technology and many orthodontic advances, traditional metal braces are more comfortable and affordable than they have been in the past. SEDA Dental of North Miami Beach offers a variety of orthodontic treatments to cater to the many needs and wants of our patients. Conventional braces offer you unique customizations that are not possible with removable aligners, like Invisalign and ClearCorrect. Many of our patients favor metal braces since it allows them to show off their personality by picking colored bands. This is an especially fun feature for young adults and teens who are attending their favorite sports games since they can show their spirit. To learn more about traditional metal braces, schedule a consultation at our office in North Miami Beach, FL.
Conventional metal braces are an excellent selection for patients of all ages. Our conventional braces are produced with top-grade stainless steel archwires and brackets that are strategically placed to give you the stunning smile you would like. They are an ideal treatment for patients with jaw alignment difficulties, crowded or gapped teeth, under- or over-bites, and protruding teeth. We also use high-quality elastics that do not easily break and are simple to apply. Throughout your consultation, we will go over your orthodontic treatments and help you choose the method that matches your needs.
What to Expect
After your initial examination, a personalized treatment plan will be developed for your specific case. On the day of your appointment, your teeth will be professionally prepped and cleaned prior to placing your metal braces. Once we have painted the bonding agent to your teeth, your metal mounts will be placed. When all the braces are on, the archwire will be threaded through them, and then you will be able to pick your desired elastic band color(s). The tiny elastic bands keep the archwires attached to the mounts. The application process usually moves fairly quickly and patients often experience no pain. You can expect to return to our office about once a month for adjustments and progress exams.
Traditional metal braces can make cleaning and flossing your teeth more challenging. That is why adhering to proper oral hygiene is important to your orthodontic treatment. When you get your braces, a member of our team will educate you on how to best clean your teeth and can offer you helpful tips. As a general rule, we recommend that you brush and floss your teeth after every meal. Keeping all your appointments and regular dental cleanings can also help ensure optimal results. Usually, most patients have braces for 1 – 2 years, but your treatment time will rely on the intensity of your case.
After your treatment is over, we will remove the braces and fit you for a retainer. A retainer will keep your teeth in their place, and we will help you pick the ideal retainer for your teeth.
If you have a problem with your braces, do not panic. You may be able to fix many problems temporarily by yourself until you schedule a repair appointment with our office. These problems do not need to cause a delay in your treatment. Anytime that you believe you cannot handle your orthodontic problem, please call us.
Loose Band or Bracket
If the band or bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If it is uncomfortable, place orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it. Sometimes you can remove the elastic band with tweezers so you can detach the bracket from the wire.
Try to push the cable into place using tweezers. If that is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers or small wire cutters behind the tooth that it is securely fastened to. If it is causing discomfort, put orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it.
Place orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on the wire.
There may be soreness for several days after each office visit. Carefully chew on sugarless gum after adjustments to minimize soreness. Use warm salt water rinses and/or take an over-the-counter pain reliever as directed.
If the appliance is sticking or poking you, put orthodontic wax or sugarless gum on it to keep it stable.
In comparison to other treatments, traditional metal braces are usually less expensive. During your consultation, we will go over your treatment options and cost estimates so you can select the method that best satisfies your needs and budget. If you have dental insurance, we will call your provider to understand your coverage and determine your personal costs. If you do not have insurance, SEDA Dental of North Miami Beach accepts many payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest financing.
