Overview

Having impressions of your teeth taken used to be considered a long and sometimes uncomfortable process. Physical impressions require you to bite into a mold for a period of time, which is problematic for patients with a powerful gag reflex. This is why our dental team is proud to offer a modern alternative to physical molds with 3D impressions. Using the advanced technology of intraoral cameras, 3D (also known as digital) impressions take precise scans of your teeth. This makes it possible for us to create an accurate model of your teeth that can be used to create dental restorations, such as implants, crowns, onlays, inlays, dentures, and more. If you are in need of restorative dental work, avoid the stress and time of physical molds with 3D impressions at SEDA Dental of North Miami Beach.

Best Candidates

3D impressions are an excellent choice for patients of all ages who have a strong gag reflex and/or people who want to avoid the stress of impressions. SEDA Dental of North Miami Beach employs 3D impressions for patients who need a custom restoration, such as a crown, bridge, inlay, onlay, dentures, or removable aligners (like Invisalign or ClearCorrect). 3D impressions are excellent for creating precise digital models of your teeth that can be sent directly to a dental laboratory or created in an in-office CEREC machine.

What to Expect

During this procedure, you will sit in the treatment chair while a small scanning wand is passed around your mouth. This tool employs blue wavelength light to precisely capture all areas, corners, and crevices of your teeth. After the scanning is done, a model of your teeth will appear on the monitor. If any areas were missed during the initial scan, an easy re-scan can be administered to catch the needed areas, rather than using dental molds, which would require the entire process to be repeated.

Follow-Up

Once your digital scans have been completed, they will be sent to a dental lab or our in-office CEREC machine. Once your restoration or orthodontic treatment has been created based on your digital scans, we will be able to complete your treatment. We will also keep your scans with your file, which will make it easier if you require another restoration and will allow us to compare changes in your teeth.

Insurance Coverage

Your dental insurance plan may offer coverage for your 3D impressions. A member of our staff can help coordinate your coverage with your insurance provider. We are happy to work with you to ensure that the payment process is handled smoothly, and we will inform you of any out-of-pocket expenses. If you do not have insurance, SEDA Dental of North Miami Beach accepts many payment methods, and we can help you find low-interest financing.
